Question by Alyss K: Credit Counseling for debts that have been sent to collection agencies?
I am looking to consolidate my debt, its around $ 4000, excluding my school loans, which are deferred since I am still attending school. Where can I go to get things straightened out? I have around $ 1000 in medical bills and $ 800 in a wireless bill the rest are credit card bills. Is there anything I can do about the medical bills since I now have insurance? Any help/advice is much appreciate. You can spare the lectures, and the rude comments. I am trying to turn my life around, Thank You!

Credit councelling is a good move, just make sure its legitimate by the goverment. It should be free.
Consolidation and negotiation scams are increasing.
Google the name of the company first followed by the word complaint.
They take your money and do nothing for you.
Look up consumer credit councelling in the phone book – not on the net.
You can also get a book called credit repair for dummies.
It tells you what these companies (legitimate ones) do, and you can do it yourself.

Question by mollzk5: What has your experience with Consumer Credit Counseling Services been like?
I am deep into debt and cant make minimum payments. I started to go through CreditSolutions.com but that was a month and a half ago and Ive seen no results. When I did some more research on them I found a lot of negative things. I also found people suggesting Consumer Credit Counseling Services which is a non-profit. Just wondering what your experience with them was like. My credit is already shot cause Im late on payments so Im not concerned about that at this point. I just want to find the best and cheapest way to pay off debt and fast before I start getting sued! Please only people who have actual experience with CCCS answer. Thanks! www.cccsstl.org Ive also been looking into this company, http://www.nfcc.org/

Credit counseling can be good but you need to find a good company go with. Make sure that they are a non profit company. Make sure you understand their fees. CCCS is not free. The companies make money.
