Question by Mitzy: Can anyone help me word an interview question to quiz the candidate about data entry speed and accuracy?
I have to come up with a couple of questions to ask candidates applying for the position of data entry clerk within our office, the position requires accurate input ahead of anything else, but we would also like someone who can do this with at least a decent amount of work being completed during a working day with interruptions from telephones, office noise etc. I am having difficulty wording a question to ask how they would maintain accuracy whilst being timely at entering data, any ideas to get them talking about how they ensure the data’s accuracy?

1. Have you ever worked at a job where there was pressure to enter data both quickly and accurately? If so, how did you balance the two. If you had to choose between one or the other (fast or accurate), which would you choose?
2. Please describe a situation where you have worked amidst noise and other coworkers and what methods you used to maintain your concentration.
3. Have you worked at a job where your data entry accuracy was evaluated (such as percentage of errors) and if so, how did you find that working condition.
4. This position requires focused attention on accuracy even though the atmosphere might be noisy. What might you do to adapt to the work environment.
