Question by Franko: What resources will provide us with honest Debt Consolidation of our Credit Cards?
I’m looking for companies or Non-Profits that will help, not hinder in this process. I would prefer to pay the debt off in 4 years, however, the problem is we might need the Credit Card in case of an emergency. NOTE- Some services require that you cancel the card once paid off and/or suspend the credit while paying this debt off.

www.dgeypscun.com My subscribers asked me if I could do something to help. I noticed the license of the video was “creative commons” which means that anybody can upload it. So I thought, “What the heck, I’ll put it up and donate 100% of the ad revenue it earns to her.” It’s a little bit tricky for me. You might be surprised how many people twist my best intentions into some kind of horrible and evil act. It makes me cautious about doing things like this. However, I didn’t want a few haters to deter me from doing something good. If you have a few dollars to help them out you can donate to them directly on the website linked above. If you care to share the video (facebook/twitter) it will get more ad revenue that I’ll donate. And if you’re a twisted idiot that thinks it’s all about me, trust me when I say I know a thing or two about youtube and people don’t sub to me for uploading other people’s videos. I just found myself in a position to help out so I did it. End of story. BTW, for those of you that are new around here the person in the video isn’t me. His story just caught my attention. Update: I sent my donation. It’s more than I expect this video to make but waiting and watching the view counter felt like a weird kind of debt and I’d love for this family to start booking their vacation. If the guys in the comments really donated like they said they did I think this is going to be a reality.

I don’t know any words of wisdom, but I think it’s great you’re working hard to resolve your debt issue. A lot of people are just irresponsible slackers and don’t care. You have integrity and are doing the right thing.

Everyone has been in debt at one time or another. The best anyone can to is make every effort to get their act together. It’s very important because you’re improving your credit situation in the long run.

Don’t be discouraged. Just know that at least one person on the planet thinks you’re remarkable and honorable for doing what’s right. You will be rewarded for your efforts!

Question by n m: Can creditors still collect on a debt that is past 7 years if that from a company that has sold out?
The company has sold out and gone out of business. I no longer have the receipts I have paid off the debt years ago. The interest has steadily grown. I have received letters from various collection agencies stating I now owe a huge debt.

There is a statute of limitations on debt and this debt is most likely outside the statute of limitations…meaning that it’s time barred.

Send a letter via Certified Mail + Return Receipt to each collection agency (NOT regular mail) stating:

Per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, I am requesting written validation of this alleged debt, which includes:

- a copy of the actual original signed contract with my signature. A typed letter showing an account number and balance due is not acceptable validation.
- validation of the original “Date of Delinquency” for this alleged debt
- validation of the “Date of Last Activity” for this alleged debt
- validation that this alleged debt is within the statute of limitations.

Per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, cease all verbal communications with me about this alleged debt

Don’t let the debt collectors scare you with bogus legal threats. Debt collectors love to pretend to represent law firms when this is not the case. By themselves, debt collectors have absolutely no legal power over you.
- If they threaten you with a lawsuit/legal action, then ask for their alleged attorney’s full name and license number in the state bar association. Call your state bar association to confirm this info. If they refuse to give this info to you, then the legal threat is probably a bluff.

I am planning a move to the Dominican Republic from the US. I have unsecured debt (school loans and credit cards) which I want to repay, but the average income in the Dominican Republic is much lower and I know I would not be able to make minimum payments. Can the debt be converted or possibly bought out by a bank there or something like that?

Just take out a loan in the Dominican Republic, then use that money to pay off the loans in the US.

This sort of thing is called debt consolidation, people use it all the time to pay off high interest loans from credit cards with low interest loans like mortgages.

i’ve heard it’s nonprofit – whatever that means? it’s supposed to have a good rating.and not too expensive. Don’t want to give anybody my power-of-attorney or sign anything with a notary.
