Question by Linda: Can I claim expenses on my taxes on a home business that is not a licensed business?
I started a home based photography business this year but I have not filed any paperwork, such as DBA, LLC or sole proprietor. Can I still claim income and expenses on my taxes?

Yes the IRS requires you to report all income – even illegal income. They do not care if you are licensed. You will need to report it on a Schedule C as a sole-proprietor.

Yet another diocese has applied for bankruptcy in order to delay sex abuse trials–this seems to be a fairly standard tactic.

Should the Church be ethically, morally or legally permitted to avoid their responsibility this way?

debt ballooned from a federally mandated sewer project beset with corruption. That was coupled with interest rates rising as global markets plummeted. The county had been working since 2008 to avoid the cost and embarrassment of the bankruptcy filing.
