Question by paul m: do i have to pay a former tenant damages for an illegal eviction if i declared bankruptcy?
when i was a landlord last year i was found guilty of an illegal eviction. i filed bankruptcy to avoid paying my scum bag tenant any money. my lawyer said bankruptcy would protect me. is he right?

Though I find filing bankruptcy to avoid something you did illegally against your best interest and future, your attorney is right. The damage you have done to yourself for years to come far exceeds just facing the music for your misdeed. Bankruptcy should not be used to escape illegal acts. It would have been better to face the music as opposed to killing your ability to have any chance of a financial future.
